Marlborough Junior Ancient Fife & Drum Corps
|
The Marlborough Junior Ancient Fife & Drum Corps is a junior corps made up of students between the ages of 8 and 18. They are dedicated to preserving the art of Ancient Fifing and Drumming. This corps was formed in 1964 in conjunction with the Marlborough Volunteer Fire Department. Marlborough is not a competitive corps but rather a muster corps which means they perform for the love of ancient music and camaraderie of fellow musicians. A muster is a gathering of ancient corps with a parade in the morning followed by individual performances by each participating corps. We have traveled up and down the eastern coast from Maine to Florida and as far West as Michigan. In January of 2002, we performed at the Lincoln Center in New York City for the Firemen and Policemen Widows' and Children's Fund. In February of 1997, we performed at Carnegie Hall in NYC. We performed at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Georgia. Internationally, we have played in Switzerland and Canada. In 1999, we traveled to Marlborough, England to trace back the name of our town. The Marlborough Junior Ancient Fife and Drum Corps is available for performances. We regularly march in parades accompanying various fire departments and other patriotic associations or can play at your ceremony. We also perform a one half hour show in which we offer a short history lesson on the revolutionary period using music as a canvas. If you are interested in having us play for you, simply contact us at mjafdc@aol.com.
