Here are some things that I remembered about the "one time trip" after I had made the page(s), and am adding on about six months later.
Before I left, my dad and I had to take out everything that remained in my apartment after some previous trips. I didn't realize how much was left in that apartment--he told me that he had. Anyway, I thought you might like a look at the load we took down in a truck--all the way from Upstate New York to Central Pennsylvania. :P
(For scale, you are looking at a Ford 150 Lariat.)
Note: These images have been alterred (cleaned up) from the photographs--you should've seen the originals!
While in the wonderful town of Fort Providence (cf. Onetimetrip4), I suffered a broken tie-rod end. I eventually had to have my car towed to "Kingsland Ford" in Hay River, NWT. I thought a couple of things about that place were worth mentioning. One, it was the first time that I saw _snowmobiles_ on the floor of an automotive dealership. The speedometer(s) went up to 250 km/hr--a rather prodigious clip. As previously mentioned, I had a broken tie-rod end, so I asked the guy in service if he wanted me to have the tow truck guy back the car right into the bay. He seemed puzzled, and told me he had already sent him away. Apparently, he didn't realize how difficult it was to move a car with a broken tie-rod end. I did. It took thirteen (!) guys to get that car into the bay. (!) :)
Barrelling down Mackenzie Route 1, to the junction with the Liard Highway (cf. Onetimetrip5), I saw a moderate-sized critter start, and make its way off of the southern side of the road. At about 70, it didn't take me long to get a pretty good look at it. With its unmistakable shape and gate, I realized, Wow. -That's a wolverine. If I had known how rare those suckers are (I haven't seen one since) in the Far North, I wouldn't mentioned it when I wrote the page.
