British Columbia
Here are some cool pics of mountains as I was driving through British Columbia. It was kind of odd having a hard frost well into the morning in late August.
Liard Hot Springs
Now these I found positively astounding. There are hot springs in northern British Columbia that keep the area warm all year around. There are species that live here that exist no where else on Earth. And the weird part is that they are _not_ "imports"--they have existed here since this part of the world was tropical!! It is listed as Canada's second most important ecosystem. (I don't know what the first is.)
Now here is something cool: Spanish moss at just south of 60! (Oddly enough, "Spanish Moss" was on the Gordon Lightfoot album I had been listening to all along this trip. Do-do-do-do. [Twilight Zone sounds. :) ])
Beta Pool was closed due to recent bear activity. -That's probably where the 14 species of orchids were; I couldn't find them. By the way, if you had ever heard rumors of a "tropical valley" in the Far North, well, this here's the place. :)
The source of Alpha Pool.
Here are some swimmers who were sharing the pool with me.It was about 40 degrees Farenheit.
Joe, when I saw this one, I burst out laughing and couldn't help but think of you. :) This is (no kidding) a car in a garbage dumpster in Fireside, BC.-Maybe we can send this picture to that car magazine. :)
