The Yukon II
Teslin
This is the somewhat beautiful town of Teslin.I stopped here to make some phone calls, and to eat in a Chinese restaurant. It felt kind of odd having Chinese food "north of 60." :)
I thought that this was kind of macabre, but. . . .
This one is not a joke. They have these in some small towns where they just can't afford a real cop--it is to get the "out-of-towners" to slow down while going through town. Eh! -That pig ain't worth the paper 'e's painted on! :)
And this is Whitehorse, the capital (spelling?) of the Yukon Territory. The weather was soo bad, that it seemed as if it were trying to drop a funnel cloud down on me. (It was cool. :) )
Al-ass-ka
And here is a sign for Badger Road, and North Pole.Hmm. -I guess the roads go a bit further north than I thought. . . . :)
And here are two pictures of the Tempo--finally here--at my apartment.
The two things it says on the side of the car are "Piece of . . . ." and "Yellowknife RULES!!"
Some facts about the trip: Length--a little over 5,700 miles. Travel time--(Not counting repairs in Fort Providence) almost 5 days to the hour. Best part of the trip: Yellowknife and Liard Hot Springs. Worst part of the trip: Driving through Detroit and Calgary, Alberta. I was in Montana--which is a desert, you can't tell me differently--with a temperature of over 95 degrees; just 48 hours later, I was in a tundral forest near Yellowknife--it was 30 degrees, and snowing. I traveled so far, so fast, that I, quite literally, got jet lag--in a car! Now that is a definite first.
Am I glad I took the trip? Yes. -Will I ever take it again? -NO!! :)
