Having ascended (recently) with both a wizard and a valkyrie, I decided to have a go with an archeologist—mostly because
their role is just so, so FUNNY!! -But, also, because the gem-identify ability is just so friggin' cool!! ( :) :) :) :) )
Shortly after this, I learned that a blessed touchstone, will do the very same thing—[and] for any character. . . .

:p ;)

It took a couple of times to "get goin'." (As in, my characters kept dyin'.  –Archeologists . . . are not a very
strong character. . . .)

Now, when one enters the "quest phase," one usually gets dire warnings—about the "minion of such and such," the
end of the WORLD, etc. "Listen" to what an archeologist "hears":

:) :) ;) ;)

"Grave times have befallen the college, for the Minion of Huhetotl has
stolen the Orb of Detection. Without it, the board of directors of
the university will soon have no choice but to revoke our research grants.

"You must locate the entrance to the Tomb of the Toltec Kings. Within it,
you will find the Minion of Huhetotl.

"You must then defeat the Minion of Huhetotl and return the Orb of Detection
to me.

"Only in this way will we be able to prevent the budget cuts that could
close this college.

"May the wisdom of Quetzalcoatl be your guide."

:) :) ;) ;)

And one usually gets messages about dire straights, inflicted by such and such—the end of the world will come, if . . . etc,
etc, etc. :p :P

LISTEN to watch fellow archeologish characters will tell ya':

"Hey man, got any potions of hallucination for sale?"

"I guess you are guaranteed to make full professor now."

:) :) ;) ;)

"Adventures with Medusa"

Yi Yi Yi Yi Yi. . . .

Medusa's lair is surrounded with "squeaky boards"—to make absolutely SURE, that she's awake to kill ya' (turn ya' ta'
stone, 'n stuff :p !:(! ). This character was the first one ever, to fix one of said squeaky boards.

	I wanted to see just what would happen . . . if I did NOT "insta-kill" Medusa, with a mirror. . . . Well. . . . She zapped a
wand of digging—straight down[wards]. Great—now we have something that kills one with even a look. That leaves out mapping. . . .
Get close by means of a controlled teleport. Gee. –She zaps a wand of digging—again. Rinse, wash, repeat. :p :P :p :P Eventually,
I was able to kill her on the castle level (The floor there is "too hard to dig into"—her "progress" was stopped). However,
I killed her over water. . . . Treasure go "Plop!" It was SOME time, 'fore I happened across an amulet of magical breathing
(They allow you to breath underwater. –They're actually pretty cool. :) ;) )—got a kelp frond (which was delicious), in the
bargain.

:) ;)

	Long story short: KILL Medusa right way. . . . (!! (!!))

:p :p :P :P

For reasons unknown, it took time getting . . . things (I think this is "just the way the ball sometimes bounces"
([this idea] backed somewhat, by stuff I've read in "nethack-type notes" online :) ;) )—I had to wish for a ring of
teleport control. . . . I think my suffering (Uncontrolled teleporting, is one of the most miserable fates in all of gamingdom—if not
existence. :p :P :p :( . . . .) all began with a tin of tengu meat—wishing against wishing, for intrinsic teleport control. . . .

Grayswandir started doing ENORMOUS amounts of damage (no complaining, eh?)—[took out] Jubilex, two hits. (!! (!!))

	I have a note here:

"master mind flayer with a wand of death (level 47). . . ."

–Sorry guys, I honestly can't remember (just) what that was about. . . . –Too many games "under the belt" [to remember],
I guess. . . .

:) :p :) ;)

Hmm . . . maybe that was when/how I got my final maxxed stat—"Yum! That was real brain food!"  –I dunno'.

On the same level—tin opener wields itself to my hand (no more +7 (bit o' work—[I was] lucky, though. . . .) Grayswandir).
A storm giant was carrying a tin of human meat. . . . (Makes a sick sorta' sense, I guess. :p ;) ) –[I found] 4 dilithium crystals,
though.

:) ;)

	I have a note, here:

"amethyst. . . ."

	 . . . Huh?

	I had a positively *AMAZING* Asmodeus's fortress "nursedance. . . ." 333 --> 412 hp's (!!!!)

Just when I went up the final staircase onto the elemental plane of earth, a lieutenant zapped me with a wand of death
(no warning) (I must've had reflection–or been wearing an amulet of life saving–by this point..)—lots of nice, juicy
wraiths, though. :) ;)

	I ran into a long worm with over 200 h.p.'s (??)

	Here's a REAL "collector's item":

:) ;)

"The gelatinous cube eats a chameleon corpse! ([It turns into a] barrow wight.)

	 . . . But when it died. . . .

. . . It left a gelatinous cube corpse. –Is this a bug?? –Or, is it meant to. . . .

	(I don't have enough energy–or TIME–to pursue this one with the nethack peeps, online. . . .)

:p ;)

	I have ALWAYS wanted to do this . . . (*FIENDISH grin*) ( :) :) :) :) ) however, I could never quite get it to work. . . .
([I] couldn't assemble the correct materials. . . .) On the astral plane, I read a cursed scroll of genocide, followed by a
blessed scroll of taming.

Purple worms

I then proceeded to teleport them–randomly–about the level. (One cannot 'port onself—or Death, or. . . . However, ( :) :) ;) ;) ) 'porting monsters (i.e. pets) is just fine. . . .) *'Nother FIENDISH grin* Mu-wha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!! –It sounded like a fraternity belching contest—with each "Burrrrp!", leaving behind a neatly stacked pile of treasure.

MU-WHA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!

–You know, there are times in my life, when I almost hate myself—but it's moments like these, that make up for 'em. :) ;) :) ;) After that, it was pretty much a done deal. :) :) Upon reaching the astral plane (Before "Death" got a crack at me. ( :p :p :P :( )), I had an ARCHEOLOGIST (!!) with almost 500 h.p.'s . . . . Wow.
