Malcolm Slate Hinckley, 75, of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Evelyn Hinckley, died Monday (April 16^th, 2001) at Hartford Hospital after a short illness. He was born December 28, 1925, son of the late Robert and Helen Hinckley, and lived his entire life in the house to which he was brought home. He graduated from Kingswood School and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute before he married and took a job with the New Haven Railroad. He joined the Connecticut State Highway Department in 1947 and worked there 36 years before retiring in 1983. He was also a professional engineeer and land surveyor and continued to work in that field after his retirement. He was a member of the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers and the Connecticut Association of Land Surveyors. He was active for many years in Boy Scout Troop 49, West Hartford, and later he became an avid follower and photographer of drum corps thoughout the Northeast. He was a member of Wyllys-St. Johns Lodge 4, AF&AM and was active in the Sphinx Temple Ritual Cast. He was involved for many years in the production of the annual Shrine Circus. He was a gregarious man who loved dogs, trains and a time-tested repertoire of stories, and he will be missed by all who knew him. He was also a member of First Baptist Church, West Hartford. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Francis Hinckley of Mendham, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Jeffrey Dowd of Santa Fe, NM; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Betsy Hinckley of Lexington, MA; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and William Harthan of Granby; sister-in-law, Petra Nason of El Cajon, CA; sister-in-law, Ruth Getchus of Rochester, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Christine Ntate who cared for him since Evelyn's death.
