Kenneth Lemley
OLD SAYBROOK -- Kenneth Lemley, 76, of 61 Bokum Road, died Tuesday at Aaron Manor in Chester. He was the husband of Judith (Cline) Lemley.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1923, in Queens, N.Y., the son of the late Edwin Lemley and Edna (Niven) Lemley. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a sailboat mast assembler for Dwyer's.
Kenny was a member of the American Legion, a third generation snare drummer, grandson of a Civil War veteran of the "sheepskin persuasion" and son of a brawny blacksmith and snare drummer whose mentor had been the famous "Champ" Fancher, the best know drummer in Connecticut and holder of the National Championship awarded him at Washington, D.C. in 1925. Ken played in numerous corps, notably Chas. T. Kirk FDBC, Brooklyn's Sons of Liberty, The New York Regimentals, Lead Drummer with The Ancient Mariners, and lastly, The Sons of the Whiskey Rebellion.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Sprance of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Marrazzo.
Friends and relatives attended the celebration of his life on Oct. 10, at 4 p.m., at the Company of Fifers and Drummers, 62 North Main St., Ivoryton.
