   Ready to "rock 'n roll." Here is a boulder held back by two eroded clay outcroppings.



   Healy has formations the likes of which I have seen NOWHERE else on Earth.  For one, there are exposed coal seams in more than a few cliffs.  They are caused by the fact that the area was formed--and has "recently" been (in geological terms) scoured by, glacier activity.  It's pretty neat.  Here is a picture of an exposed outcropping, made entirely of coal.



   And here is a picture of the second mine fire.  -No flames are visible at the surface.  -Apparently, the fire has gone too deep for that to happen.  :( Smoke still perpetually rises on the other side of the river, though.  This was where we saw the big, doofy-lookin' moose, by the way (barely visible in photo.)
