Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum. This is a picture of Fred. Fred is really cool. :) He's about 6'5", has hands that span from my elbow to my wrist, and is an . . . avid fan of Star Trek. :)
*Addendum to this*: I showed this to Fred--just to make sure that he didn't mind what I was adding. Here was his response:
"I like that--that's pretty interesting. -I don't know if my hands span your forearm, though."
I reponded, "Are you so sure?" and held up my forearm.
"Hmm. -I guess you do have a point, there."
:)
I don't know who the guy on the left is, but the one in the middle is Mr. Peterson, my "ex-boss," and the woman on the right is Dr. Renata Wackenbaur--a recent tenure-track faculty hire. Mr. Peterson is really cool ( :) ), and Dr. Wackenbaur is really nice, too. Her specialty is the mathematical modeling of chaotic life systems.
From the left are Mr. Peterson, Dr. Brenton Watkins (the head of the department, Dr. Craven--and then some dude I don't know. . . . -Worth noting, is that the "halo" above Dr. Craven may not be . . . totally deserved. ;)
This is Mrs. Karen Remmick. -Is it just me--or does she bear an *EXTRAORDINARY* resemblance to Linda Moyer. . . .
The elegant repast---notice the kim chee (my addition :) ). By the way, Fred just _loves_ kim chee. :)
And this is Mrs. Irene Downes--the physics secretary. I think that this is a really good picture of Irene. :) (If one looks really carefully, she can be seen in the crowd towards the beginning of the "parade scene" in "Animal House." -I'm serious.)
It was absolutely _astounding_ to me--how much my perceptions of the things/the place/people had changed, since my first coming here. I suppose that happens for anywhere one spends any significant amount of time--but the difference in my perception of my first Thanksgiving Dinner in the Natural Sciences Facility, and my second, just blew me away.
On to more pictures of Alaska, 'n stuff.
