(At the Fairbanks International Airport) One big bear:

I have always wanted to climb up the hill above the viewing point of Alaskan Pipeline, just north of Fairbanks (and see what there is to see); so, on Thursday, 7/29 (/04), I did just that: :)

After showing you just how cool the view is from up there, I must recommend only a "vicarious enjoyment of the experience" ( :) )--as the climb up there is, well. . . .  Let's just say the climb is "nontrivial." And once one is up there, there are wonderful things like patches of what looks like solid ground--but in fact turn out to be only areas overgrown with low-lying plants, and which hide an "express trip" ( :) ) down a very steep hillside.  To make matters worse, Rosie disappeared for a bit---causing me no small concern. . . .

Thin wispy arctic clouds--that look almost as if they were drawn on the sky with a great, big brush:

These pictures were actually taken just after I had put our raft in storage after the 2004 Red Green Regatta.

On to more Alaska pics.
