1/25/05 Moonrise Over IARC (the Internation Arctic Research Center). -Do you think I can get a million bucks for this photo?  ;) Hmm. With what Bush and Co. are doing with the economy, a million bucks might come out to only 1,000 cups of coffee. . . .  ("Brother Can You Spare a. . . .")

1/30/05 I like this one.  It was SOO cold--that an icicle was hanging off of the exhaust pipe of the guy in front of me.  This was while the engine was warm--AND RUNNING!! (You can just see it. . . .) Again--why did I turn up that chance to study in Hawaii??!!  :) :)

      2/1/05 Fairbanks on a cold, cold afternoon---lit by a low-hanging sun. . . .

2/2/05 Would you like to join me, for . . . LUNCH??

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has an unusual distinction: It has the only college ID in the world--with a polar bear on it.  It's like, the school's animal/mascot, or something.

I find it exceedingly appropriate that UAF has chosen as its mascot the only animal on Earth that will knowingly hunt humans as prey.  -Don't know what I mean?  Well, there's someone who has never had the experience of being a student there.  (. . .)

2/4/05 The interior doors at the local Taco Bell.  (Note that this is an "arctic entryway": There is another, outer set of doors, that never lock.  This is intended to keep someone from freezing to death if they happen upon the place "after hours" (dubiously defined for Taco Bell, anywyay :) )--and have nowhere else to seek shelter.) -Are you sure you want to go out there? :) ;)

2/4/05 Fairbanks is the only place where I have ever seen the grocery store carry . . . buffalo:

2/5/05 This is the sight that greated me when I went to the storage facility that I rent.  One has to be REALLY careful about bare skin and metal in the Interior.  (Less than a second's contact can--well, does ( :) )--mean at least superficial frostbite.) The first time that I winterized a car (at 17 below)--even with no small amount of care, and "pre-warming" the tools for several minutes in front of a heated vent--I still managed to get (mildly) frostbitten something like 24 times---if I remember correctly. . . .

On to more Alaska pics.
