Smoke rising near the cemetery--bleak scene:
The fire at Centralia is positively HUGE--3,500 acres+. It took me years to find this view; it was featured on the Offroaders site of Centralia.
A gopher hole, in the middle of a field--unremarkable, in every way--save that this one perpetually spews toxic smoke.
This monument, located in Frackville, Pennsylvania (the brown stone-thingie, in ~the middle), is _unique_ in all the world--it is exclusively dedicated to mom-dudettes:
I think the picture came out rather well-considering that I took it making a right-hand turn in relatively heavy traffic. :)
Laurel Run, Pennsylvania:
The following are some pictures of the Red Ash Mine Fire in Laurel Run. As you can see, by the time we got there, it wasn't the best time of day to be taking pictures. :P On the bright side, the use of the flash in near-darkness gave the photos a strange, almost other-worldly quality. . . . One can just see visible signs of smoke in the third picture.
